Scottish National Race Schedule

Coral became the main sponsor for the Scottish Grand National in 2007, so this bookmaker’s name has been added to the race name.

The 2009 Coral Scottish Grand National Festival is due to be held on Friday and Saturday, 17 and 18 April, with the Scottish Grand National itself run on the 18th. Gates open on Friday at 12:20pm and on Saturday at 10:45am.

Visit our Coral Scottish Grand National travel page for directions to Ayr Racecourse, and check our Scottish Grand National tickets page for ticket prices and options.

During the Festival, several supporting races will be run. Notable among these races are the Scottish Champion Hurdle and the Ashleybank Investments Future Champion Novices’ Chase – both National Hunt Grade 2 races. Other supporting races included in the 2008 Festival schedule and likely to be run again in 2009 (although sponsors may change) include the:

  • Purvis Marquees Juvenile Novices Hurdle
  • Dawn Construction Handicap Hurdle
  • Serendipity Interactive Handicap Hurdle
  • Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase
  • Coral Mares Only Handicap Hurdle
  • Scottish Sun Handicap Hurdle
  • Securities Novices Handicap Chase
  • Albert Bartlett and Sons Handicap Chase

The prize fund for the 2009 Coral Scottish Grand National is £550,000 – the biggest prize in Scottish jump racing, and certainly one of the biggest anywhere for a National Hunt Grade 3 race. An added bonus of €100,000 will go to any UK-trained winner who takes the Scottish Grand National after having also won the Cheltenham Festival Chase.
